On The Equivalence of Single - and Multicarrier Modulation : A New ViewRobert

چکیده
| Starting from the optimization of multi-carrier systems the equivalence to single{carrier systems is shown with respect to the achievable signal{ to{noise ratio. This provides a new view on the topic. I. Introduction For many applications multicarrier modulation, often also denoted as discrete multitone (DMT) or orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), is a strong competitor to single{carrier modulation. In 5] it is shown, that in principle DMT and pulse amplitude modulation with decision{feedback equalization (PAM{DFE) can achieve the same transmission rate (see also 1]). In this paper the equivalence of DMT and PAM{DFE is derived from a new point of view, based on the optimization of DMT. II. Transmission Model and PAM{DFE Consider the T {spaced (possibly complex{valued) discrete{ time model of a digital PAM transmission scheme including transmit lter, continuous{time channel and optimum linear zero{forcing (LZF) equalization. The overall discrete{time description is simply given by the additive Gaussian noise channel with a certain noise power density spectrum nn(e j2f T). It is well known that a whitening lter H(z) can be applied in order to decrease noise variance by prediction. As the order of H(z) goes to innnity, noise becomes white with variance

Multicarrier modulation with OFDM for 4G networks
This paper presents a new approach based on multicarrier modulation (MCM) with OFDM, to accomplish the goals of 4G. MCM [1] is a form of multicarrier system and a derivative of frequency-division multiplexing. MCM is a baseband process that uses parallel equal bandwidth sub channels to transmit information. Normally implemented with Fast Fourier transform (FFT) techniques, MCM's advantages incl...

متن کاملA Study on Equivalence of Time- and Frequency-domain Channel Estimation for Multicarrier Signal Transmissions
Abstract: Accurate channel estimation is necessary for coherent detection and adaptive control techniques, e.g., adaptive modulation and demodulation, of multicarrier signals. In this paper, we study one-dimensional channel estimation in frequencyor time-domain and 2-dimensional channel estimation in time-frequency domain. It is shown that the frequency (time)-domain interpolation channel estim...
متن کاملFilter Bank – Based Multicarrier Modulation
Even though we do have on going research on traditional OFDM/DMT techniques, part of our research in multicarrier communication concentrates on filter bank-based multicarrier modulation. We refer to this as cosine-modulated filter bank multicarrier modulation (CMFB-MCM) or cosine-modulated multitone (CMT), for a shorter terminology. In the past, under the name discrete wavelet multitone (DWMT) ...
متن کاملStudy of Stone-wales Defect on Elastic Properties of Single-layer Graphene Sheets by an Atomistic based Finite Element Model
In this paper, an atomistic based finite element model is developed to investigate the influence of topological defects on mechanical properties of graphene. The general in-plane stiffness matrix of the hexagonal network structure of graphene is found. Effective elastic modulus of a carbon ring is determined from the equivalence of molecular potential energy related to stretch and angular defor...
